Liver transplants are the answer to the thousands of people living with incurable liver disease. In spite of about 5,000 livers transplanted a year, there is still a severe shortage of donor livers. With almost 20,000 children and adults having been approved for the waiting list, the need is much greater than the supply. We are in the business of coordinating organ transplants from donors in non-U.S. countries to recipients from the United States. Many countries have a "presumed consent" or "opting out" regulation which allows for tissue and organ removal unless the donor has specifically noted that he or she opposes donation. Once a candidate is accepted as a recipient, we can locate a liver within a few days or weeks at one of the participating hospitals.
